Red Lion—W. Philip Hoffman, 83, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis E. (Bishop) Hoffman to whom he was married for 58 years. A Funeral Service will be held 11 am, Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Chapel United Methodist Church, 3050 Cape Horn Rd, Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Bob Vizthum officiating. Viewings will be held from 7-9 pm, Monday, at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion and 10-11 am, Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be held in Greenmount Cemetery. A military flag presentation ceremony will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born July 15, 1927 in West York, he was a son of the late William H. and Miriam J. (Platts) Hoffman. He was a small business owner of Hoffman Signs, which he operated for 16 years, until his retirement in 1992. A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he was also a member of Chapel United Methodist Church in Red Lion, enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and tending to his blue bird boxes. He was formerly involved with the Boy Scouts and raced homing pigeons. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hoffman is also survived by a son, Karl P. Hoffman and wife, Denise of York, a daughter, Jan M. Gohn and husband, Robert of York, four grandchildren, Kyle W. and Abigail E. Gohn and Matthew P. and Sarah E. Hoffman, one brother, Kenneth S. Hoffman of York and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie J. Kline. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Chapel United Methodist Church, 3050 Cape Horn Rd, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
