Vivian A. (Thorp) Mattocks

TROY- Vivian A. (Thorp) Mattocks, age 98, of Springfield Township, PA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 19, 2013. She was born on September 21, 1914 in Fairview, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel (Johnson) Thorp. Vivian was a graduate of Troy High School and also studied business there. She married the late Orton C. Mattocks on June 25, 1934 and the couple had 64 happy years of marriage before his passing on September 11, 1998. After their marriage, the couple bought the family farm and worked together side by side each and every day. Vivian was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In addition to farm chores, she cooked, gardened and canned the produce she raised. Vivian’s life was centered around her deep faith in Christ. She attended Leona United Methodist Church and when her age and health made her unable to attend services, she read scripture and books by Christian authors. Vivian loved her family and was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching baseball, football and golf. Vivian is survived by her daughter Beverly (Dean) Chapman of Cobleskill, NY, her son Duane (Sandra) Mattocks of Canton, PA, 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Ethel, her husband, Orton, her daughter Phyllis Shoemaker, her granddaughter, Susan Shoemaker, her brothers, Ray and Robert Thorp and her sister Marilla Kier. Family and Friends are welcome to call from 12:00-1:00pm, May 25, 2013 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. A funeral service celebrating Vivian’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Jody Kenyon and Rev. Kenneth Marple officiating.
