Virginia R. Herrmann

Virginia “Ginny” Renee (Maurcourt) Herrmann, 94 of Country Meadows of York Retirement Community, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022. She was born July 2, 1927 in Steelton, Pennsylvania to the late Mitchell Antoine Maurcourt and Mary Catherine (Kovacic) Maurcourt. Ginny – a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother – was raised in Steelton and Harrisburg. She met her first and only boyfriend, lifetime love, soulmate and husband – John “Jack” William Herrmann – in the summer of 1942, and graduated from William Penn High School in 1945. Among other employment, Ginny worked as a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania following her wedding on November 4, 1948 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Harrisburg. The couple resided in Harrisburg, Colonial Park, Dallas (Luzerne Co.) and Etters during their 65-year marriage. Ginny’s ongoing passion throughout her life was spending every possible minute with her family, especially as it grew over the years with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished every birthday, holiday and spontaneous moment that brought them to her home. Her passion for cooking and entertaining often included her homemade Italian meatballs, one of her family’s favorites. She also loved sewing, reading lengthy biographies, card games, pizza-night-out with friends and vacationing at Ocean City, Maryland with family. She will be missed beyond description by the loved ones she always put as the priority in her life. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by daughter Diana Jean Kunkle (Michael) of Dover; son John Brian Herrmann of Linglestown; granddaughters Jennifer Harlacher (Eric) of Dover, Erica Kunkle (partner Leland Moore) of York and Stephanie Machulsky (Michael) of West Hanover Township; grandson Brett Herrmann (Andrea) of Morristown, NJ; and six great-grandchildren. A private burial service will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, P.O. Box 311, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. CLICK HERE TO SEND FLOWERS
