Virginia M. Smeltzer

RED LION – Virginia M. (Schrum) Smeltzer, 98, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Normandie Ridge. She was the wife of the late Ernest D. Smeltzer, Sr.

A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Rev. Josh Wargo officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

Born December 11, 1923 in York, a daughter of the late Paul and Martha (Stumpf) Schrum; she began her career at York Carmel Co. which is where she met her husband, Ernie; then worked at Jayson’s Shirt Factory for 20 years and later retired from Ore Valley Elementary School where she had worked in the cafeteria for 15 years. Mrs. Smeltzer was a member of Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Smeltzer is survived by a son, Ernest D. Smeltzer, Jr. and wife Lucinda of Dallastown; a daughter, Jane L. Dixon and husband David of York; six grandchildren, Lisa Lee, Troy Smeltzer, Todd Colvin, Christa Wagman, Erin and David Dixon; seven great grandchildren, Zachary and Summer Lee, Taylor Leiphart, Tyler Crawford, Chase Smeltzer, Zachary and Aaron Wagman; and three great great grandchildren, Noah and Carson Fetrow, and River Allen Leiphart; and four sisters, Nancy Urey of Lewisberry, and Mary Snyder, Barbara Kottmyer, and Sarah Smith all of York. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph and Paul Schrum Jr., and Willis Harmon; and three sisters, Dorothy Galloway, Betty Jacobs, and Catharine Lease.
