Virginia M. (Drake) Harris

Dover—Virginia M. (Drake) Harris, 81, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Tracie D. “Dan” Harris and the companion of William H. Smith of Dover. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10AM, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with the Rev. Eddie D.D. Miller officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10AM, Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born September 29, 1935 in Winchester, VA, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Cora) Drake who resided in Lewisberry. She retired from Tighe Industries and previously worked at several sewing factories in the area, Ettco Tools and Rutters Store. A member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary—Post 7374 where she was past President and Treasurer, she was also past district 21 VFW Auxiliary President and member of the VFW Dept Auxiliary President Club. She was a former member and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of Cooties 045, a member of the Slate Belt #13 MOC Auxiliary and served as Chaplain of the Grand MOC Auxiliary Shiloh American Legion Auxiliary #791. In addition to her companion, Mrs. Harris is also survived by children; Daniel Harris of York, Bruce Harris and wife, Cathy of York, Laithe “Joe” Harris and wife, Connie of Manchester, Cynthia Tate and husband, Tim of York, Mary Bowser of York, Merissa Mayes and husband Russell of York and Sherryll Harris and companion, Ken Shorts of Harrisburg, NC; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; brother, Gary Drake and wife, Pat; and sister, Buena Rorapaugh and husband, Jack of York Haven. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Harris; a daughter, Lorie (Harris) Brenneman; and brother, John Drake.
