Virginia L. (Sheffer) Ginter

YORK – Virginia L. (Sheffer) Ginter, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at home. Virginia and her family celebrated her 90th birthday on January 9th. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Ginter. Born January 9, 1923 in York a daughter of the late Franklin E. and Esther R. (Bahn) Sheffer, she was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Mrs. Ginter was a teacher’s aid and retired from York City School District. She liked to be called “G” by family and friends, was an avid reader and loved seafood. Her family will miss their Christmas Eve dinners and the seafood feast. Virginia was very proud to say she served her country and was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946. She had been stationed at the US Naval Barracks in Washington, DC during WWII. Mrs. Ginter is survived by two daughters, Monica Grothe of Connersville, IN and Sandra L. and husband Michael Young of York; four grandchildren, Matthew Scott Grothe and wife Tammy, Michelle and husband Michael Donovan, Chad Dylan Trimmer, and Christopher and wife Sarah Young; four cherished great grandchildren; MaKenzie, Zach, Aidan, and Ava; two brothers, William Scheffer of PA and Johnson of Florida; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Caplinger Gross. Memorial contributions may be made to the York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N, York, PA 17406.
