Virgiline P. Jilson

WELLSBURG, NY - What a triumphant day as the Lord took our Mother home on Psalm Sunday. Virgiline P. Jilson, Age 100 of 3689 County Route 60, Lowman, NY passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. Virgiline was born January 26, 1912 in Lowman, NY daughter of the late Elmer E. and Mollie (White) Peck. She was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1930. She and the late Ralph Jilson were married for 63 years prior to his death. Virgiline and Ralph operated a large dairy farm in Lowman until 1955 when it was destroyed by fire. She was also employed as a secretary for many area businesses, carried mail from Lowman, Wellsburg, Chemung NY and Wilawana, PA Post Offices to meet the train in Waverly, NY. She also cooked for the Children’s Daycare Center sponsored by the Chemung County EOP located at the Lowman United Methodist Church. Virgiline was a member and the organist at the Lowman United Methodist Church for over 80 years, member of the Katona Rebekah Lodge, Wellsburg, NY, Holly Rebekah Lodge, Elmira, NY, member of the Elmira Eastern Star Lodge, volunteer for RSVP and was Volunteer Coordinator for the Chemung County Tourist Booth, Route 17, Chemung, NY, she also was keyboard player for the band “The Elmirians” for 32 years and played piano to entertain residents in local nursing homes. Survivors include sons, David Jilson of Freeville, NY, Donald (Beverly) Jilson of Lowman, daughters, Delores (Leonard) Morgan of Elmira, NY, Mary (Fred) Daniels of Lowman, grandchildren, Walter Jilson, Jr. of NC, Regina (Elmer) Yarnell of OH, Heather (David) Moore of Lowman, Mark (Diana) Jilson of Waverly, NY, Chris (Jody) Jilson of Mooresville, NC, Kirt (Robin) Jilson of Davidson, NC, Laurie (Terry) Cooper of Valdosta, GA, Matt Jilson of Waverly, NY, twenty one great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, Lenore Jilson of FL, Shelia Jilson of Waverly, NY. Virgiline was predeceased by her husband Ralph, infant son, Bradford Jilson, her son, Walter Jilson, Sr., a brother, VanBuren Peck and sister, Viorene Gehrke. Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 7 PM with Meredith Tifft Hospice Chaplin officiating. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery, Wellsburg, NY.
