Violet 'Cookie' Coopey

Violet “Cookie” Coopey, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday morning, June 19, 2013, at her home. Born in Kingston on July 5, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Kathleen Barbara (Gruver) Basher. When she was younger, she enjoyed swimming, horseback riding and dancing. While her husband, Allen, served in the Army, she travelled with him and lived in Germany for 2 years. In their later years, they enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching birds and going to auctions. Cookie was also a cancer survivor. Prior to retiring, Cookie was employed at numerous factories including Topps Chewing Gum and Fit Rite Headwear, but her favorite job was taking care of her family. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed helping raise her granddaughter, Brittany. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 1 sister. Surviving is her husband, Allen, who she married on June 16, 1962; daughter, Marjorie Starek; granddaughter, Brittany Starek; brother Solon “Snow” Fenner; sisters, Barbara Barron and Kathleen Skrzypkowski; many nieces, nephews and cousins; her dog, Callie and cat, Chealsea “Chelly”. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family from Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
