Viola Rosella (Smith) Keeney

Viola Rosella (Smith) Keeney, 91, died on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Clyde L. Kenney to whom she was married for 61 years until his passing.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, 100 East George St., York New Salem with the Reverend Lori Babcock officiating. A visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service at church. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.

Born on December 29, 1931 in York, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Katheryn (Beck) Smith. Viola was a secretary for Leaders Heights Nursery.

Mrs. Keeney was a member of St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ. Viola loved cooking, baking, interior decorating and making flower arrangements. She was also an avid racing and rodeo fan. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Keeney is survived by two sons, Gregory D. Keeney and his wife, Barbara of York and Jeffrey L. Keeney and his wife, Mary of York; three grandchildren, Lindsey Richards and her husband, Peter of Wrightsville, Kate Keeney-Feaser and her husband, Todd of Dillsburg and Travis Keeney of San Francisco, CA; three great grandchildren, Reuben Richards, Greta Richards and Otis Richards; and daughter in law, Ellen Keeney of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by her son, Todd E. Keeney.
