YORK- Viola M. (Leiphart) Shoff Wilt, 97, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Country Meadows of York- South. She was the wife of the late John “Palmer” Shoff and the late Glenn L. Wilt. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2185 Windsor Road, Windsor, with Pastor Butch officiating. Viewings will be held Sunday, January 10, from 3-5 PM at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, and Monday from 1-2 PM at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born June 10, 1918 in Windsor Township, Viola was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Elsie (Deckman) Leiphart. Mrs. Wilt was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Susquehanna Senior Center in Craley. Viola had many jobs throughout her life. She worked at Snyder’s Cigar Factory in Windsor, and then Federal Cigar Factory in Red Lion. She took care of many jobs at the Red Lion Hotel. During the War, Viola worked at Borg Warner on the crankshaft line and on the sanding machine. From 1955-1960 she and Palmer owned Shoff’s Grocery Store. She went on to work at Hellam Frocks, Davies Products, Pfaltzgraff Corporation, Smith Villiage, Johnson Controls, and Dallastown Schools. However, the greatest job she will be remembered for is her constant care and love for others. Viola had the gift of being a caretaker and even for those who were not in her family. The loving and caring impact she had on people will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts that loved her. Mrs. Wilt is survived by a son, Bernell D. Shoff and his wife Jola of Windsor; a stepdaughter, Wanda McKeown of Camp Hill; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents, Viola was preceded in death by four brothers, Ervin Leiphart, Calvin Leiphart, Charles Leiphart, and John Leiphart, and three sisters, Esther Loucks, Rosetta Krout, and Gertrude Robinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2185 Windsor Road, Windsor, PA 17366.
