Vincent E. Thompson, 84, of Red Lion, entered into Heaven on Monday, August 22, 2016. Born on July 2, 1932, he was the son of the late Ezekiel and Mary (Ruff) Thompson of Dallastown. He was married for 59 years to Norma J. (Henry) Thompson of Red Lion; He is also survived by two daughters: Melinda Meyers and her husband Christopher of Cambridge, MD; and Laurie Rieger and her husband Richard of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his son Daniel Thompson. He was also a beloved and proud grandfather to Sophia Meyers, Isabella Meyers, Ava Rieger and Maxwell Rieger. Vincent was a 1950 graduate of Dallastown High School and a Korean War veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a radio operator. He participated in Boy Scouts, helping to organize Troup 155, acting as a Cub master and achieving the Order of the Arrow. In 1996 he retired from Caterpillar after 40 years of employment. An active member of Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, he taught Sunday school, served as a Eucharistic Minister and assisted with various church committees. He loved writing poetry, telling jokes and spending time with his family. Additionally, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, listening to music and solving crossword puzzles. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Chapel United Methodist Church, 3050 Cape Horn Rd., Red Lion, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Brendan Hock officiating. Burial will be held in the Heiland View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Building Fund of Chapel United Methodist Church. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place is in charge of the arrangements.
