SWARTHMORE-Vincent "Vince" Charles Mason was born in Wilkes-Barre on April 5, 1963 to Jacob "Buddy" Whitt of Wilkes-Barre and the late Brenda Joyce Mason. He entered into eternal rest on June 1, 2010. Vince graduated from G.A.R. Memorial High School in 1981. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1990. Once leaving the military, he became a correctional officer and was employed from 1990-1997 at SCI-Dallas, 1997 to 1998 at SCI- Graterford and 1998 to 2008 at SCI-Chester. Since 2008 he has been employed at the Allentown Community Corrections Center. He was also employed as a Customs Protection Officer at Wackenhut Corporation since 2007. Vince enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies in earlier years included Karate, where he became a black belt, DJ'ing, dancing, and nightclubs. More recent hobbies included salsa dancing, and playing the electric piano. And, Vince didn't mind working. At one time or another he had three jobs. He had always strived to achieve. In addition to his father, he leaves to mourn his untimely passing, his children, Alexandria, Karly, and DeAndre; siblings: Myra (Otis), Auburn, NY; Gordon (Patricia), Mountain Top; Eric, Wilkes-Barre; Tanita, Wilkes-Barre; Brittany, Wilkes-Barre; aunts Linda, MD; Josephine "Doodie" (Louis), Claire, and Jackie, NY; Deanie, IL; Rosie, Kathie, and Nadine, PA; uncles Raymond and Daryle, PA; Charles, NY; and Gerald, Gary, MD; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Vince was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Joyce; his mother's parents: Charles and Gladys; cousin Damian; grandparents: Jacob and Geraldine; uncles: Ronnie, William, and Steven; aunts Doris and Myra. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing Service will be held Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 105 Hill Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Shawn Walker will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church. Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, is in charge of arrangements.
