Vernon W. Johnson, Jr.

Mountain Top-Vernon W. Johnson, Jr., 93, of Mountain Top, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Mountain Top Senior Care. Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 18, 1917, he was the son of the late Vernon W. Sr. and Emily (Krell) Johnson. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Wyoming Valley Antique Car Club and had previously served on the Wright Township Sewer Authority Board of Directors. Prior to retiring in 1979, he was the owner of Johnson Motor Service Co., Barney Street, Wilkes-Barre. His father had started the business in 1910. Surviving are his sister, Shirley Batdorf and her husband, Robert, Reading; nieces, Nancy B. Clark, Middletown, OH and Carol a. Batdorf, Gloucester, MA; grandnephews David Clark, Kansas City, KS and Timothy Clark, Franklin, OH. Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at Kniffen OMalley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with the Reverend Dennis Grey officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
