Troy, Pennsylvania Vernon O. "Spike" Robbins, age 90 passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at home following a lengthy illness. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Monday, September 22, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Spike's funeral service will be held at 8 PM following calling hours with Reverend Gary Zuber officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Hillside Cemetery, Big Pond, PA. Spike was born August 26, 1918 in Springfield Township, PA son of the late Carl and Vernie Leonard Robbins. He was married to the late Claire Watkins and Doris Elvidge. He was retired from the Elmira Star Gazette where he worked as a carrier for many years. His memberships included the Troy First Baptist Church the Big Pond and Sylvania Lions Club where he was awarded the perfect attendance award many times. His many interests included working in his woodshop, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Harold Nichols of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Robbins, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, step-son and daughter-in-law, Don and Carolyn Bixby of East Smithfield, PA, a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Kathy Robbins of Wellsburg, NY, dear friend, Ruth Wells of Troy, PA 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.
