Vernon P. Sample

Lock Haven - Vernon P. Sample, 81 a former resident of Castanea died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Lock Haven Extended Care Unit. He was born December 16, 1927 in Warren PA a son of the late Neil & Ruth (Champion) Sample. Vernon was married in Mill Hall on July 30, 1950 to the former Ada M. Engle. He was a machine operator with Champion Parts. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed Penn State football. Vernon served in the Navy during WWII. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Terry (June) Sample of Beech Creek, Steve (Donna) Sample of Mill Hall. Two daughters Marilyn (Jim, Sr.) Gill of Mill Hall and April (Terry) Butler of Mill Hall. 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren one brother Ronald (Jane) Jones of Jacksonville, FL and three sisters Marilyn (William) Bitner of McElhattan, Romaine (Robert) Fetterhoff of Tonawanda, NY and Joanne (Robert) Allison, Jersey Shore. He was preceded in death by two daughters Linda Nyman and Bonnie Lucas, a son Vernon P. Sample, Jr. a grandson Paul Allen Darby, and a great-great granddaughter Mariah Ann Minihan and also two sisters and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall with Capt. David Stout officiating.
