Vernon L. Gentzler, 74, of West Manchester Twp., died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at his home. He was the husband of Ardoth F. (Becker) Gentzler with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on November 29, 2006. Following cremation, a visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2007, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 11 a.m. A light luncheon and additional time for sharing will immediately follow the service at church. Burial with military rites by the York County Veteran's Honor Guard will be at 2:30 p.m. at Quickel's Cemetery, Zion View. Officiating at the services will be his pastors, the Rev. Kevin T. Shively and the Rev. Richard E. Jorgensen, Jr. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gentzler was born April 1, 1933, in York. He was the son of the late Frazier E., Sr. and Pauline (Miller) Gentzler. He worked for many years at his father-in-law's business, the former Industrial Pattern Works, in York.He then worked at Koppers, Inc. for ten years. He later retired after 20 years as a self employed pattern maker in York. He was a 1951 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was a former Deacon at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ. Mr. Gentzler was a gifted craftsman, able to accomplish any task put before him and was an especially talented woodworker. Along with his wife, he also enjoyed attending and participating in countless antique shows over the years. Mr. Gentzler is also survived by his two daughters, Dr. Yvonne S. Gentzler of Ames, Iowa and JoAnn D. Snow of York; six grandchildren, Sibyl E. Snow, Gregory A. Gentzler, II, Steven G. Gentzler, Britni J. Gentzler, Lauren E. Gentzler, and Samantha C. Gentzler; five sisters, Betty Markel and husband, Robert of Red Lion, Janet Sindlinger and husband, Thomas, Jeannie Nitchman and husband, John, Karen Chronister and husband, Don, and Carol Dick and husband, Rodger all of York; two brothers, Robert Gentzler and wife, Susan and Ricky Gentzler, all of York. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory A. Gentzler in 1988 and Scott E. Gentzler in 2000; and three brothers, Frazier E. Gentzler, Jr., Russell E. Gentzler, and Marvin Gentzler. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17404 or VNA/Hospice Services, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
