Vernon C. Ruppert, Jr.

SPRING GROVE- Vernon C. Ruppert, Jr., 61, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was the husband of Tanya S. (Clay) Ruppert. The couple had been married for 22 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Reverend Amy J. Schultz and the Reverend Matthew H. Stillman officiating. A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Wolf’s Union Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Born on September 5, 1950 in York, Vernon was the son of Mae (Ness) Ruppert and the late Vernon C. Ruppert, Sr. He worked at Exelon until his retirement in 2009. After retiring, Vernon worked as a Nuclear Consultant for Westinghouse. He held a Reactor Operator License that he obtained through Three Mile Island. Mr. Ruppert was a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ. Vernon served our country for six years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Ruppert was an avid hunter and was a member of the Jefferson Sportsman Club. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Africa and going to Penn State football games with his wife. Along with his wife, Tanya, Mr. Ruppert is survived by one daughter, Heather Ruppert of Spring Grove; one stepson, Ed Reams of York; one grandson, Miles Kenneth Reams; a brother in law, Pepi Clay of York; a godson, Brody Gilbert; and a special friend, Keith Gilbert of Arroyo Grande, CA.
