RED LION- Vera Marie (Warner) Godfrey went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5, 2017, after 90 full years of life. She passed away peacefully in her home with her husband of 71 ½ years, Glen S. Godfrey and family by her side. Vera was a wife, mother, homemaker and partner on the family dairy farm, providing generous meals for the crew, driving farm tractors and milking the cows. She was a long time member and served as deaconess at the Codorus Church of the Brethren in Loganville. Born in Dallastown on March 27, 1927, Vera was the daughter of the late Samuel and Florence (Knaper) Warner, Sr. Vera worked for the Standard Sewing Company before marrying Glen on June 29, 1946. Vera was a talented seamstress, quilting, crocheting many tablecloths, blankets and other gifts for her family and friends. In her retirement, she cared for pet chickens, which followed her, and only her, everywhere she went. Vera will be remembered for her smile, her dedication to her husband, hard work, her delicious desserts and showing her love. Vera leaves her husband, Glen; six daughters, Sharon Sweitzer and husband, Wayne of Jacobus, Judith Merroth of Downington, Carolyn Paup and husband, Gary Kling of Windsor, Donna Quickel and husband, Paul of Red Lion, Faye Barshinger and husband, Dennis of Windsor and Susan McKinnell and husband, Andrew of Red Lion; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one sister, Elva Hengst of York. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Wedlock and Erma Hedrick; three brothers, Samuel Warner, Jr., Vernon Warner and Homer Warner; and son in law, D. Thomas Merroth. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Rd., Dallastown with her pastors Ben Godfrey and Duane Bahn officiating. A viewing will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
