Vera M. Jordan

YORK- Vera M. (Hawthorne) Jordan, 79, passed away Monday, May 19, 2020 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Zeama L. Jordan. Mrs. Jordan was born in Georgiana, Alabama on February 17, 1941, the daughter of the late Jessie and Veora (Coleman) Hawthorne. She was a certified nurse’s aide. She worked as a caregiver from her home and various nursing homes. Mrs. Jordan was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in York and Long Creek Baptist Church in Alabama, where she previously sang on both of their choirs. She was a 1959 graduate of Georgiana Training School in Alabama. She enjoyed playing Bingo, was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Jordan leaves two daughters, Victoria (Jordan) Miller and her husband Terry and Pamela (Jordan) Jones and her husband David; two sons, Johnnie Jordan and his wife Mary and Michael Jordan and his wife Kathy; 11 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Hawthorne and Jimmy Hawthorne; and a sister Thera Coleman. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose (Jordan) Gilliam; a sister, Era Brown; and a brother, James Hawthorne. Memorial contributions may be made to York Cancer Center, Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Rd. York, PA 17403. A private graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Mount Rose Cemetery. Pastor Robert Jamison will be officiating at the service.
