Red Lion — Velma E. “Mame” (Markel) Myers, 101, died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Manor Care Health Services-Dallastown. She was the wife of the late Walter G. Myers. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 AM, Monday, January 14, 2013 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with her pastor, the Rev. Linda S. Trout. A viewing will be held from 9-10 AM, Monday, at the funeral home. Burial will be held in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery. Born December 23, 1911 in Chanceford Township, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Z. and Anna M. (Gohn) Markel. She was employed with several cigar companies in the Red Lion area. A member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the New Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She loved working outside in her yard, taking walks and spending time with her family. Mrs. Myers is survived by one brother, D. Yeagle Markel of Red Lion; one sister, Erma M. McDonald of York and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth L., Clair A., Ray Z. and W. Earl Markel and eight sisters, Ester G. Robinson, Charlotte E. Leiphart, Violet R. Miller, Minnie M. Runkle, Janet F. Lutz, Betty V. Anderson and Elaine G. Barnhart. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2666 Furnace Rd, Felton, Pa 17322 and New Bridgeville Vol. Fire Company, 2870 Furnace Rd, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
