Veda H. (Smith) King

MILTON - Veda H. (Smith) King, 97, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at her home. She was born on August 26, 1919 in Agnos, Arkansas and was the daughter of the late Harvey O. and Lillie K. (Kemper) Smith. On February 18, 1965 Veda married the late John E. “Elwood” King and they celebrated 26 years of marriage together until his death on October 25, 1991. Veda was a graduate of Salem High School, Salem Arkansas Class of 1937. She then went on and earned her associates degree through Drawhens Business College, Springfield, Missouri. After college, Veda went to work for Montgomery Wards, Kansas City, Missouri for 23 years, after that she went on and worked for Kuhns Brothers, Milton for 14 years and retired in 1980. She was a member of the West Milton United Church of Christ, West Milton, a past matron of the Eastern Star, Milton, past member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Sunbury and William A. Knecht Memorial Court #144 Order of Amaranth, Milton. Veda enjoyed watching Nascar, reading, crocheting, playing bingo and traveling with her husband. After Elwood died, Veda spent many years volunteering at Riverwoods, Lewisburg. Veda is survived by one step-son; Wade King, five step-daughters; Betty Reiner, Barb Embeck, Elaine Springer, Vonnie Mincemoyer and Jane Hunselman, 23 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, one daughter-in-law; Gloria King and numerous cousins. In addition to her parents, first and second husbands, Veda was preceded in death by one daughter; Kowena Walter, two step-sons; Barry and John “Butch” King and her twin sister; Vena Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Milton United Methodist Church, 310 High Street, West Milton, PA 17886. A public viewing will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton followed by an Order of Eastern Star service and an Amaranth service at 11:00 A.M. At the completion of both services the funeral will be held with the retired Reverend John E. Lee officiating. Burial will take place in Paradise Cemetery, Milton.
