DALLASTOWN - Vanessa A. (Post) Simms, 43, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Daniel L. Simms. The couple planned to celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary on October 21. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM at York Alliance Church, 501 Rathton Road, York, PA 17403, with her pastors, the Reverend Brian Kannel and the Reverend Tim Shuey officiating. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born on May 6, 1970 in Washington D.C., she was a daughter of James and Carol (Post) Collison. Vanessa grew up in Annapolis, MD and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington College in 1992. Mrs. Simms was an active member of the York Alliance Church where she served 12 years as a Life Group leader and worked in the nursery and Sunday school. She also served as a substitute teacher and active volunteer at Shrewsbury Christian Academy. She was a home school mom, serving as a member on the board of the York Home School Association. Vanessa recently finished training with the York Literacy Council to become a reading tutor. She had made a relatively recent discovery of her artistic talents, especially in mixed media and painting. Vanessa enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with her children and family. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Simms is survived by three sons, Kevin Simms, Nathan Simms, Jamin Simms all of Dallastown; one step-daughter, Kristina Simms of Red Lion; a brother, Ula Gehret of Tilburg, Netherlands; three sisters, Kimberly Collison of West Hartford, CT, Casey Hanback and her husband, Brian of Lusby, MD, and Rose Jack and her husband, Joshua of Burbank, CA; a grandmother, Ruth Post of Annapolis, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Shrewsbury Christian Academy, 701 Windy Hill Rd New Freedom, PA 17349.
