YORK -Thomas V. Chatman, Jr., 74, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at his residence with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of W. Lee (Rowe) Chatman to whom he was married for 42years. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Small Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 401 S. Queen Street, York, with the Rev. Dr. Aaron Willford, Jr. officiating. Viewings will be 5-7:00 p.m. Friday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, and 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery with military honors provided by the York County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mr. Chatman was born August 8, 1934, in York, a son of the late Thomas V. Chatman Sr., and Elizabeth (Johnson) Chatman. Mr. Chatman was a former employee of the York City Police Department for over 20 years. He began his career as Police Detective, then advanced to Police Chief, and finally retiring as Police Captain. After retiring he continued to work for 11 years as the Manager of York City Parking Borough. He was currently employed as a tipstaff for Judge John C. Uhler of the York County Court House, where he has worked for the last 10 years. He was a life member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in York. Mr. Chatman was also a member of FOP, White Rose Lodge #15. He was an avid golfer. In addition to his wife, Mr. Chatman is survived by a son, Eric V. Chatman and wife, Tonya of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Erica Bolden and husband, James of Chambersburg, Erica Hawkins and husband, Kyle of York, Eric Chatman, Jr. of Harrisburg, Latonya McGee of Harrisburg, and Prenice Chatman of Harrisburg; 12 great grandchildren; a brother Terry D. Chatman of York; a sister Bette J. Thomas of Lawrenceville, NJ; and an aunt, Mary N. Eley of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by a step-mother, Zepher Chatman.
