YORK - Thomas Lee Stinnette, 92, of Roanoke, VA passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Country Meadows in Leader Heights-PA. He was the loving husband of the late Grace A. (Summers) Stinnette. A Private graveside service will be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens Chapel. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born on July 5, 1929 in Roanoke, VA, he was a son of the late Gordon L. and Mabel I. (Sales) Stinnette. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Tom served a 45 year career in the Merchant Marines, retiring as a second engineer. In the 60’s, when the Twin Towers were built, he worked on a dredge that moved the material from the site to extend Manhattan into the Hudson River. He worked on an AT&T cable ship, The Long Lines, which laid fiber optic cable across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe, enhancing transatlantic communications. He also engineered on a ship that supported the building of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. After retiring in Bel Air, Maryland, he and his wife enjoyed bowling in a weekly league called the Recycled Teenagers. He was also an avid golfer as a member of the Bel Air Hackers. Mr. Stinnette is survived by his two daughters, Rhonda Campbell and husband Rob, and Beverly Schuder; four grandchildren, Jennifer Guarriello and husband Joe, Lauren Ellenberger and husband David, Elizabeth Campbell, and Matthew Campbell; seven great grandchildren, Evan and Alex Aggelis, Carson, Blake and Graham Ellenberger, Caroline and Aiden Belcher; and a sister-in-law Geraldine Stinnette. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Stinnette is preceded in death by four brothers, Carroll, Macon, Edward, Alfred Stinnette; a sister, Louise Scott; and a son-in-law, Howard Schuder, III. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Country Meadows Co-Workers Foundation, 451 Sandhill, Drive, Hershey, PA 17033.
