BETHESDA, MD- Thomas E. Trone, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Sunrise at Fox Hill Assisted Living and Memory Care. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 117 W. King St. East Berlin, PA. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. A private family burial will be held at 4 p.m. at Greenmount Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Trone was born on June 23, 1926, in York, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Stanley John and Carrie Elizabeth (Williamson) Trone. Thomas served in WW II as a Quartermaster in the United States Navy. He served on the US Aircraft Carrier Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) from 1944 to 1945. The carrier was based in Tokyo at the signing of the peace treaty. Tom spent considerable time in the Philippines and Japan. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Tom served 17 years in the Army reserve. He joined as an ROTC student at the University of Maryland. Mr. Trone retired at the rank of Major. Upon graduation from college, Tom was employed by Trans World Airlines. He was based in Washington, D.C. for ten years, then based in New York City, as Director of Sales, for ten years. From 1966 to 1985, Tom was President and Owner of Quality First Acres, Inc. in East Berlin, PA, which was involved in egg production/processing, marketing, hog production, crop farming, farm vacations, company picnics, three gas and convenience stores, and a retail beer store. Mr. Trone was a past member of Bermudian Springs HS School Board, past President of PA Egg Marketing Association, past member/board member of Northeast Egg Marketing Association, past President of PA Farm Vacation Association, past member/board member of Gettysburg Travel Council, past Commander of the East Berlin VFW, past President of the Lions Club, East Berlin, a life member of the West York Elks #213 and a member of the Vikings Club of York. Tom is survived by his wife, Sheri Trone, of Poolesville, MD, their three sons, Spencer, Clark and Maverick, and their two daughters, Maria and Paris. Tom is also survived by the children of his first wife, Jean Barnett Trone (deceased), including sons David Trone and his wife, June; Thomas Trone and his wife, Jill; Robert Trone and his wife, Anna, all of Potomac, MD; John Trone and his wife, Julie, of Fort Collins, CO; and daughter Linda Lau and her husband, Chris, of East Berlin, PA. Tom is also survived by 17 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 117 W. King St., East Berlin, PA 17316.
