Renovo - Thomas E. Johnson, age 82, of Renovo, died at Bucktail Medical Center on Thursday, August 30, 2007. He was born in Renovo on February 6, 1925, son of the late Harry A. and Florence (Lindsey) Johnson. On November 24, 1953, he married Mary Jane Harlan in Harrisburg, Pa. with Rev. L.B. Barton officiating. She survives in Renovo. Tom graduated from Renovo High School and took an apprentice course at Penn State for boilermaking while working for the Pennsylvania Railroad shops for eleven years. He also worked one year for American LaFrance in Elmira, N.Y., four years for S. Morgan Smith in York, Pa. and retired from Consolidated Gas Co. in 1987 after 29 years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific in the Field Artillery Battalion and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on March 21, 1946. Tom was a past Commander of the American Legion in the 50's and a life member of the Elks, and the National Rifle Assoc. He was an avid hunter and loved going to his camp. Besides his wife, Tom is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Lee Werner of Sacramento, Ca. and Polly Ann (Gary) Ranck of Mt. Holly Springs, Pa., three grandchildren: Leigh Ann Urban and Taylor C. Urban and Mallory C. Ranck, one sister; Janice (John) Connelly of S. Renovo and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a daughter: Nancy Jane, who died in infancy, four brothers: Gerald "Jeff", Merrill "Bing", Malcolm "Chisel" and Gordon, seven sisters: Lenora Goodman, Sadie Goodman, Dorothy Hiller, Charlotte Walizer, Esther Shay, Grace Tarr, and Lois Hutton. As per his wishes, there were no calling hours or funeral services. After a private family viewing, he was buried on his family's lot in North Bend Cemetery.
