YORK – Thomas A. Garrety, Jr., 59, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at York Hospital. He was the companion of Matti A. Berkheimer. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his brother in law, The Rev. James T. Fox officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday and 1-3:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. Born August 2, 1954 in York a son of Grace A. (Myers) and Thomas A. Garrety, Sr. of York, he was a 1972 graduate of Dallastown High School. Tom owned and operated West York Inn and T.A. Garrety Masonry and had previously owned Lee’s Diner. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting, and trap shooting. Tom had won numerous awards for his expert marksmanship. Never one to sit still, he could often be found bowling, golfing, playing and coaching softball, and drag racing. Mr. Garrety is survived by the mother of his daughters, Pamela J. Garrety of York; three daughters, Melissa J. and husband Nate Miller, Casey J. Garrety, and Keri A. and husband Jordan Somerville all of York; three grandchildren, Liliana Auchey, Levi Miller, and Paisley Miller; a brother, Ted A. and wife Linda Garrety of York; two sisters, Robin L. and husband James Fox of Sellersville and Ann M. and husband Charles Summers, III of York; Tyler McGuire and his daughter, Harley of York; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Garrety. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to York Cancer Patient Help Fund, c/o York Health Foundation, 50 N. Duke St., 2nd Fl., York, PA 17401.
