AVOCA-Theodore P. "Ted" Kania, 90, of Avoca, passed away Sunday evening at Golden Living Nursing Home, Scranton. Born in Duryea on September 19, 1919, he was a son of the late George and Mary (Szepielak) Kania. He was a graduate of Avoca High School. Ted was of the Catholic faith and attended several local churches, including Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a shipping clerk at Leslie Fay, Wilkes-Barre. Prior to that, he was employed by Westinghouse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley, Raymond and Robert Kania, and a sister, Julie Chapman. Surviving are his sister, Florence Bates and her husband, Dr. Stephen Bates, Woodbury, NY; nephew, Stanley Kania, Avoca, as well as other nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. The Reverend Charles W. Rokosz will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
