Theodore Chanoux

TROY- Theodore Chanoux, 90, of Troy, PA, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Troy Community Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Margaret M. (Dlouhy) Chanoux who passed away on February 22, 2008. The couple married on July 10, 1943 and had 64 wonderful years together. A private family memorial service to honor Ted's life will be held at a later date. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements. Ted was born on July 3, 1917 in Pont Bozet, Italy, and was the son of the late Seraphino and Vittoria (Pitet) Chanoux. He was a graduate of New York University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ted then joined the US Navy and oversaw repairs in the Navy shipyards during World War II. He worked as a mechanical engineer for the rest of his career. Ted was the engineer who designed and built the wrist sized air pressure gauge worn by John Glenn in February 1962 when he orbited the earth in "Friendship 7". In 1975 he opened his own consulting firm of Chanoux Associates, where he designed interments for Power Industries until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, former chairman of their Fairfield County section, and was a former member of the Connecticut Council of Industrial Management Club. Ted was also a member and former president of the Towanda Area Senior Center, HOPS Ambulance, and the First United Methodist Church of Troy, PA. In his free time Ted was an avid beekeeper, and loved to race lighting sailboats with his son David when they lived in Connecticut. He also loved to rebuild cars. His passion was driving and repairing old VW bugs. Ted and Margaret also built their own home in LeRaysville, PA. Ted is survived by his son David (Anita) Chanoux of Lexington, MA, his daughter Claudia Richards of Troy, PA, his grandchildren: Kate, Val, Becky, Tim, Kelly, Glen, and Laura, his great grandson Ryan, his sister Letitia Bishop of Largo, FL and several nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made in Ted's memory to the Bradford County Humane Society, U.S. Highway 220, Ulster, PA.
