Thelma V. Swords

DOVER- Thelma V. (Benedict) Swords, 87 of Dover Township, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Clarence W. Swords, Jr. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York. Viewings will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday and 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Tina Rockwell will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York. Mrs. Swords was born in York on October 13, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Ellen V. (Ort) Benedict. She retired in 1975 from Nabisco in York after almost 30 years of service. Mrs. Swords was a member of Heritage Senior Center in Dover, Local #492 Union, Dover Ambulance Club and Dover Union Fire and Hose Station 6. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Swords leaves two daughters, Karen M. Smith of Dillsburg and Susan E. Therit and her husband Phill of Dover; two grandchildren, Ashley Bushey and her husband James and Amber Therit, and a brother, Ray Benedict of Hellam. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Emory, Clair, and Lester, and five sisters, Mildred, Esther, Marie, Doris, and Pauline.
