Thelma Mae (Holtzapple) Garrett

YORK - Thelma Mae (Holtzapple) Garrett, 84, passed peacefully from this earth on Sunday, March 15, 2009 surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her late husbands Samuel H. Garrett and the late Kenneth R. Wilhelm. Friends are invited to join the family in a service honoring her life at 2:00 PM Friday, March 20, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Chapel. Born in York on May 6,1924 to the late Charles and Hetty Holtzapple, she graduated from West York High School, Class of 1941 and began working as a bookkeeper for the Fulton Mehring Company in York. Thelma retired from York Bank & Trust in 1993 (M&T Bank) where she had worked for more than 40 years. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and supported various charitable organizations including American Heart Association, Cancer Society, Easter Seal Society, and SADD. Thelma was an avid sports fan and spent countless hours in front of her TV watching the PGA tour, NASCAR circuit, professional ice hockey and tennis, college basketball and Penn State Nittany Lion football. Mrs. Garrett is survived by a daughter, Tina M. Truby and husband Dale of Hockessin, DE; a niece, Bonnie L. and husband Peter Mangan of York; three nephews, Stephen C. Holtzapple of York, Michael D. Holtzapple of Mapleton Depot, PA, and Jeffrey R. and wife Barbara Holtzapple Ohio, as well as all of those who will so deeply feel her loss from being touched by her sense of humor, warm smile and caring heart. She was preceded in death by a brother, John "Ralph" Holtzapple. In lieu of flowers, Thelma's request was "for everyone just to enjoy an evening out with family."
