Terry Lee Shutz

YORK - Terry Lee Shutz Sr. - 84, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, PA. Terry was the husband of the late Alexandra (Sandra) Henderson of Edinburgh, Scotland. Terry was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 12, 1936 to the late William L. and Mary Shutz. He excelled as a high school athlete in basketball and baseball, and loved spending his childhood summers fishing and boating at the family cottage at St. Mary’s Lake. As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served overseas during the Korean conflict. The majority of his Air Force career was spent in Scotland where he met his wife Sandra and discovered his passion for golf. After his military service, he returned to the United States and attended business school to study accounting which led him to careers in credit management and sales, eventually leading him to Leesburg, VA in the early 70’s. While living in Leesburg, he also served as a councilman for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Terry and his family moved to York County in 1977, where he worked as the credit manager for York Borg-Warner, started his own Golf Travel Company and was a top sales person for a local quarry prior to his retirement. He loved his volunteer work for Hospice and was an inspiration in the recovery community. Terry instantly fell in love with the York County area and knew that he would want to spend the rest of his days here. The view from his home overlooking the farms of Seven Valleys brought Terry and his family constant peace and comfort. Over the years, family and friends gathered at the home for many family reunions and holidays. Easter Egg hunts and Christmas mornings were two of his favorite times to spend together. Terry was an avid reader and enjoyed books about philosophy and the condition of the human soul. He will best be remembered for his love of golf - the game and its history, his hearty homemade soups, playing penny ante poker with his family, exploring the annual York County Fair (especially the Firemen's sausage and funnel cake vendors), and his continuous generosity. Left to cherish Terry's memory are his beloved family: son Terry L. Shutz Jr. (Pilar Carpenter) of Leesburg, VA; daughter Jane Wilson (John) of Lancaster, PA; granddaughters Alexis Strocko and Jessica Corey (Tim); and his great-granddaughters Chloe Bennett and Meadow Corey; as well as extended family members and friends including Cindy Paddison of York. The family will be holding a small private memorial service for immediate family members. Memorial contributions can be made in Terry’s honor to Hospice & Community Care located at 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552 , or to the LifePath Christian Ministries (formerly York Rescue Mission) located at 367 W Market St, York, PA 17401.
