Terry Lynn Bacon, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11th, 2024, at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy, PA, following a short inpatient stay for stroke complications. While heaven celebrates his arrival, his absence on earth is felt with sadness.
Terry was born in Chanceford Township in 1943, and was the son of the late Ray E. and Muriel M. (Beck) Bacon. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy J. (Gemmill) Bacon, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage. Terry is survived by six children: Randal Amberman and wife, Chris of NM, Cathy Alder and husband, Bill of WV, Karen Gross and husband, Ken of Felton, Lori Topper of York, Cheri Reed and husband, John of Brogue, and Eric Bacon and wife, Sally of Brogue. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 siblings, Carol E. Shenk and Joel L. Bacon, and his wife, Cathy.
Terry's first job was as a door-to-door salesman for Carmen's ice cream. He served in the Air Force as a second airman, where he studied electronics and repaired communications navigation systems. Upon leaving the Air Force he returned home to milk cows on the family farm. He worked for Cole Steel for three years and then Consolidated Freightways, retiring after 33 years. Terry was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Red Lion Masonic Lodge as a Master Mason and a member of both the Collinsville and Hopewell Fish and Game Commission.
Terry was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, where he was a charter member. Previously, he was a member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Trustee.
A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024, at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion, with a viewing from 9-10 a.m. followed by a service at 10 a.m. There will also be a viewing on Monday, October 21st, from 6-8 p.m., with Masonic Rites provided by the Red Lion Masonic Lodge #649 at 7p.m. Following the service, the burial will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
