Sylvia K. Carlis

RED LION - Sylvia K. (Kendall) Carlis, 83, formerly of Feasterville, Bucks County, died at 3:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at her home. She was the wife of William A. Carlis with whom she celebrated a 61st wedding anniversary on June 1, 2007. A funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 in the Chapel of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd., York with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Tuscan, OFM, Cap. serving as celebrant. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carlis was born January 17, 1925, in Drifton, Luzerne County. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Schaub) Kendall. She retired in 1987 from her nursing position with the office of Dr. Elizabeth Strathie in Bucks County after 25 years of service and also served as a Nurse Cadet during World War II, from 1942- 1945. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York and had also been a very active volunteer at her former church, Assumption Blessed Virgin Mother Church in Feasterville, where, among other things, she helped clean the church and served as the school nurse. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Carlis leaves her daughter, Delphine "Del" McChalicher and husband, Kimbel of Red Lion; her son, William A. Carlis, Jr. of Silver City, NM; three grandchildren, Gary, Christopher and Kendra McChalicher; and a daughter-in-law, Lilly Virgil of Nevada City, CA. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Carlis and a brother, Charles Kendall, II. Memorial contributions may be made to the York VNA Hospice, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
