AVOCA-Sylvia Jakuboski, 83, formerly of Wilford Street, Pittston, of Avoca, left us peacefully to be with our Lord on April 3, 2009. She was a short time resident at the Hospice Community Care Unit at Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Pittston on October 12, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Tessie (Gentile) Rich. She graduated from Pittston High School and was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Pittston. She was former member of the church choir and the Golden Star Bible Class. Sylvia retired from Diane Elaine Frocks, Pittston and was former member of the ILGWU. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward;4 brothers, Michael, George, John and Paul Rich; two sisters, Jennie Tamburro and Grace Galasso. She is survived by a son, Edward Jakuboski and his wife, Nancy, Avoca; a daughter, Joy Cooney and her husband, Mark, Milford, NH; 6 grandchildren, Edward Jr., Amanda, Drew, Abby Jakuboski, and Tyler, Braedon Cooney; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Second Presbyterian Church, 143 Parsonage Street, Pittston. Officiating will be Pastor David Brague. Interment will be Pittston Cemetery. Please go directly to the church. Calling hours will be held Sunday night at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main Street, Avoca, from 6 to 8 PM or at the church Monday from 9:30 until the time of the service.
