Stewart L. Swartz

YORK- Stewart L. Swartz, 92, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Manor Care Health Services- York North. He was the husband of the late Grace M. (Rhoads) Swartz, who passed in January 2003. A gathering of friends and family for a time to share memories will be held from 1-3 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Emanuel Cemetery. Born April 15, 1925 in York, Stewart was a son of the late Eugene M. and Laura K. (Wire) Swartz. He worked as a truck driver for 17 years; employed by Edgcomb Steel and Simons Photo Service. Stewart had a love of cars and car shows, especially his ’56 and '57 Chevy convertible. He was a member of the former White Rose Car Club. Stewart traveled to every state except Hawaii, even driving the distance to Alaska. Mr. Swartz is survived by two daughters, Janet Arendt and her husband Milson of York, and Jeanie Snyder of Mt. Wolf; two step-sons, Gary Straley and his wife Ruth of DE, and Keith Straley and his wife Sue of MD; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Ellwood Swartz, Frank Swartz, and Ronald Swartz, and a sister, Evelyn Frey. In addition to his wife and parents, Stewart was preceded in death by four siblings, Gladys Glatfelter, Helen Miller, Vernon Swartz, and Edward Swartz, and two step-sons, Lynn Straley and Joel Straley.
