Sterling H. Ferree

York—Sterling H. Ferree, 87, died Monday, November 28, 2011 at his residence in Springettsbury Township. He was the husband of Shirley C. (Brant) Ferree to whom he was married for 62 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Friday, December 2, 2011 at Emanuel Lutheran Church—Freysville, 2650 Freysville Rd, Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. Robert D. Kitchen officiating. A viewing will be held from 10-11 AM, Friday, at the church. Burial will be held in Freysville Union Cemetery. Born October 4, 1924 in Windsor Township, he was a son of the late John H. and Mary J. (Hafer) Ferree. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He retired in 1990 after 43 years of dedicated employment from Atlantic Breeders Corporation in Lancaster as Director of Records. As a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church—Freysville, he served on the church council, taught Sunday school, served as Sunday school superintendent and sang with the church choir for 60 years. He also sang with the York Chorus and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. In addition of his wife, Mr. Ferree is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer Strickler and husband, Stephen of Dallastown and Denise Ferree of York; three grandchildren, Brent Strickler and wife, Leslie, Kimberly Viapiano and husband, Paul and Kelly Cray and husband, Charles; four great grandchildren, Aliceanna and Meriel Cray, Jemma Viapiano and Layton Strickler; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church—Freysville, 2650 Freysville Rd, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
