Stephen Lee Sorandes

YORK- Stephen Lee Sorandes, 59, of West Manchester Township passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road in York on Saturday May 23, 2015. Visitation will be from Noon-1 PM, celebration services from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with refreshments and fellowship following. Certified Celebrant Nicholas Turner will be officiating at the service. Stephen was born in Baltimore on March 23, 1956, the son of late Herbert T. and Catherine Lee (Peddicord) Sorandes and was a 1974 graduate of Parkville High School. He was an independent owner operator contracting for Budd Van Lines for the past 15 years and Founder of Choices Recovery Houses in York. Since their foundation, Stephen remained actively involved in his recovery houses and was well respected within the recovery community. Over the years, he gave countless others the chance at a new way of life. On November 17, 2015, he would have celebrated 32 years of sobriety. He looked at every year as a gift and faced all of life’s ups and down with serenity and grace. He will be remembered for his love of family and traveling with his job and for his love of music, the Orioles and the Ravens. Stephen leaves his companion and business partner Kathy Sorandes and her fiancé Ed Neidrich; two daughters, Shannon M. Russell of Titusville, FL and Kristen L. Sorandes of York, a son, Stephen H. Sorandes of Titusville FL; four grandchildren, Joseph Russell, Hunter Russell, Christopher “CJ” Dorminey, and Ethan Russell; a sister Pattie Sorandes Butler of Hopewell Twp; and six nieces and nephews, Kristi A. Butler, Stefan G. Butler, Brandalynn N. Armstrong, Jocelyn M. Izzo, Kelsie K. Butler, and Bryce R. Butler. Memorial Contributions may be made through a gofundme account being set up by the family to benefit Stephen's grandchildren to assist with future college tuition.
