WILKES-BARRE- Stanley J. Barvinski, 75, a Wilkes-Barre resident of the Community Living Center of the VA Hospital, Plains Twp, died Friday afternoon, October 29, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Born February 2, 1935, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Sauchak) Barvinski. Stanley played football for Meyers High School, and was a graduate of the Class of 1953. He was also an avid stamp collector and an electric train enthusiast. On September 14, 1954 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After receiving training with the 3450th Technical Wing at Warren Air Base, Wyoming, he was deployed as Airman 2nd Class to Japan for collateral training after which he was based at Tachikawa Air Base in northern Japan where he was a member of the 337th Fighter Group. On March 14, 1958 Stanley received an honorable discharge. He was preceded in death by a nephew, J. David Diffenderfer. Surviving is his sister, Ruth Diffenderfer, Allentown; niece Deborah Diffenderfer Ashworth and husband Carl, Johnstown; Great-niece Elizabeth M. Diffenderfer, Philadelphia; and great-nephews Keegan J. Oscavich, Allentown, and James B. Diffenderfer, Lebanon. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pm from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call from Noon-1:00 pm. The Rev. Robert F. Sauers will officiate. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Twp. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to Disabled Veterans National Foundation Inc., PO Box 96648, Washington DC 20090-6648.
