Shirley L. (Sharer) Parry

NEW COLUMBIA - The beloved Shirley L. (Sharer) Parry, 80, died Monday, February 08, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Northumberland. She was born on August 27, 1935 in Mount Carmel and was the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Wagner) Sharer. On August 03, 1957, Shirley married the late Thomas C. “Tom” Parry and they celebrated 58 years of marriage together until his death on October 14, 2015. Shirley was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School Class of 1953. Prior to graduating she lived with her parents and two sisters: Joan (Bastian) and Jacqueline (Rupp) in Mount Carmel. Upon graduation from high school, Shirley attended the Women’s Hospital of Philadelphia School of Nursing from September 1953 through August 1956, where she achieved a Registered Nursing degree. After completing her education, Shirley worked as a Nurse at the Shamokin Hospital until her first child was born in August 1958. Shirley was a very active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, New Columbia. Shirley and her husband Tom were also members of the Susquehanna Bassett Hound Club and the Gold Wing Riders Motorcycle Club. She served for a number of years as a Girl Scout Troup leader and she enjoyed hunting and traveling around the country with Tom on their gold wing trike. Shirley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Dean T. and Ann Marie Parry of Danville and Dan C. and Gretchen Parry of Baltimore, MD, one daughter and son-in-law; Dawn S. and Robert Skiles of Northumberland, five grandchildren; Joshua Parry, Tabitha Parry, Katie Matthews, Nathan Parry and Jacob Parry, three great grandchildren and one sister; Jacqueline Rupp of Flordia. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one sister; Joan Bastian. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO. Box 51, White Deer, PA 17887. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 2:00 – 3:00p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 257 Third Street, New Columbia, PA 17856 followed by the memorial service at 3:00p.m. with the Reverend Robert Rice officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 North Front Street, Milton.
