YORK TOWNSHIP-Shirley I. (Taylor) Gross, 74, of York, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Ronald E. Gross. The couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on July 16th. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Mrs. Gross was born in York on November 25, 1935, a daughter of the late Roy M. I. and Laura C. (Boyer) Taylor. She retired in 1997 from York City School District where she was the Head Cook at McKinley Elementary School. Mrs. Gross was a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association. She was a past Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and also served as a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader and held several positions in the PTA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Mrs. Gross leaves a son, Steven M. Gross and his wife Barb of Spring Grove; four daughters, Susan M. Smith and her husband Zane of Red Lion, Debra L. Williams and her husband Doug of Laurel, MD, Lisa A. Welsh and her husband Michael of West York, and Jennifer L. Leicht and her husband Daniel, Jr. of Dover; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Taylor of Mt. Wolf and Robert Taylor of Camp Hill; a sister, Evelyn eaton of West York, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie, Jr., a sister and four brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
