Sara (Staver) Kaplan

WILLIAMSPORT - Sara Kaplan, 87, died on Thursday, December 11, 2008. She was the loving wife of the late Edward Kaplan. Sara was born on December 23, 1920 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Abraham and Anna (Kwasser) Staver. Most important in Sara's life were her family and friends. She was a member of the Congregation Ohev Sholom and its sisterhood. Family members who survive Sara include her son Stanley (Judy) Kaplan of Hanover, PA; her daughter JoAnn (Richard) Ackerman of Alexandria, VA; her son-in-law Steven Cohen; her grandchildren, Benjamin (Susan) Kaplan, Tamara (Breck) Petrillo, Elyse Kaplan, Jodi (Jen) Cohen, Kimmi Cohen, Allison Ackerman, Stephanie (Andy) Vuong; and her great grandchildren, Edda and Iris Petrillo, Josephine Kaplan, and Beatrix Eileen Cohen-Raymond. Besides her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband Edward, and her daughter Eileen Cohen. The funeral service was held at 10:30 AM on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street, Williamsport. Burial followed in the Ohev Sholom Cemetery with her spiritual leader, Rabbi Mac Portal, officiating. In keeping with Jewish tradition, there was no viewing, nor any flowers.
