Sandra E. (Smith) Runkle

Sandra E. (Smith) Runkle, 72, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at UPMC Memorial Hospital due to COVID-19. She was the wife of William G. Runkle. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 10th. A private family funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 with her pastor, the Reverend Steven Schmuck officiating. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Born on February 27, 1948 in Chanceford Twp., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth G. and Romaine K. (Koons) Smith. Sandra was a machine operator at General Dynamics for 25 years until her retirement in 2010. Prior to she worked at a few sewing factories including Danskin. She also babysat children over the years, which many grew to know her as a second mother. Her love and nurturing came natural to her. Mrs. Runkle was a member of Red Lion Bible Church. She enjoyed horseback trail riding, camping and shopping. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Sandy was a loving Mother, Grammy, Aunt, Sister and Friend to so many. She touched many lives and will be forever missed. Many saw her as a leader, take charge when no one else would, we loved her even more for it – everyone knew you could always count on her, and we did. Along with her husband, William, Sandra is survived by her son, William “Todd” Runkle and his wife, Alicia of Red Lion; two daughters, Denette E. Boyd and her husband, Donald, Jr. of Red Lion and Kathy A. Conley and her husband, Thomas of Felton; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth L. Smith and his wife, Sue of Red Lion, Dennis L. Smith and his wife, Sharon of Felton and Ricky L. Smith of Felton; and a sister, Sonja J. Shaull of Red Lion. Our hearts are broken to have to say good-bye as she says hello to our Lord and Savior. We only find peace in knowing she is breathing easy, living with God, enjoying all the fruits He has prepared for her.
