RED LION – Samuel M. Grove, Jr., 92, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Ada M. (Olewiler) Grove to whom he was married for 72 years on April 12, 2013. Funeral services and burial will be private. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Grove was born on February 13, 1921 in York, a son of the late Mabel (Arnold) and Samuel M. Grove, Sr. Before entering the Army in 1943, Samuel was employed by York Safe & Lock Co. While serving in the US Army, he was assigned to Company I, 120th Infantry. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded at St. Lo, France, and was also awarded an E.A.M.E Theatre Ribbon with one Battle Star. Upon returning home, Samuel worked at the Red Lion Cabinet Co. before forming Grove Bros. Sawmill with his three brothers. He was a member of Red Lion Zion U.M. Church, enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and family, playing cards, and listening to bluegrass music. In addition to his wife, Mr. Grove is survived by two daughters, Linda L. and husband Dale Hinkle of Red Lion and Bonita K. Bailey of Dallastown; three grandchildren, Timothy Hinkle and wife Elizabeth of Brandon, FL, Greta Bankert and husband David of York, and Amy Sowers and husband Paul of Yorkana; four great grandchildren, Megan, Amanda, Nickolas, and Morgan; and three step great grandchildren, Sabrina, Skyler, and Hunter; two sisters, Mary and Lillie Eberly both of Dallastown; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion U.M. The family wishes to thank the caregivers from Almost Heavenly Homecare, Special Care, and Heartland Hospice for their support of Sam's daily needs.
