Samuel L. Dershem, Sr.

Lock Haven - Samuel L. Dershem Sr., age 75, of Lock Haven, died at Jersey Shore Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 after an extended illness. He was born in Fairpoint, Pa. on February 14, 1932, son of the late Jacob H. and Annie (Ketner) Dershem. Samuel worked as a welder for the Piper Aircraft Co. until it closed and then for the Brodart Co. until his retirement. He was Methodist by faith, had a great sense of humor, loved outdoor activities, and was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries he received in the Chosen Reservoir Battle. On June 14, 1952, he married the former Mae M. McDermit in Lock Haven and she survives him. Also surviving is his son: Samuel L. (Rita) Dershem Jr. of Rote, Pa. and daughter: Debra (Ralph) Moore of Genesee, Pa., grandson: Cory (Linda) Dershem, brother: William Simcox of Farrandsville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by three sisters. As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Memorials are requested to the Clinton Co. Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
