NORTHUMBERLAND - Samuel A. Emsweller, 91, died on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Nottingham Village, Northumberland. He was born on September 5, 1917 in Milton and was a son of the late Harry Clay and Mary L. (Forbes) Emsweller. He had graduated from the Scotland School for orphaned children and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. On February 18, 1939 he had married the former Jean I. (Denius) and celebrated 69 years of marriage. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Northumberland, the Masons, American Legion and was an avid reader. In addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law; Bonnie L. and Cecil Hornbeck of San Diego, CA, Beverly A. Smith of Sunbury and B. Holly and Paul Prichard of Sunbury, three grandchildren; Shane F. and Ryan M. Smith, both of Sunbury and Jeffrey Hornbeck of San Diego, CA and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. There will be a Masonic service 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2008 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton with a memorial service following with Pastor John C. Staje, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Harmony Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in Samuel's memory to the Degenstein Library, 40 S. 5th St., Sunbury, PA 17801.
