YORK- S. Marshall Roser, Jr., 88, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at Heartland Hospice House of Delaware. He was the husband of Pamela S. (Schoolden) Roser. The couple celebrated 27 years of marriage this past November. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Chaplain Dolly Faitz officiating. Viewings will be held from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the funeral home and Friday from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Interment will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery will full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born May 25, 1928 in Philadelphia, Marshall was a son of the late S. Marshall Roser, Sr. and Dorothy (Vaniman) Roser. Mr. Roser served our country in the United States Marines in two tours of duty from 1946-1952. He was with the New Jersey State Police (1952-1958), graduate of the FBI (1963), served as Police Chief in Willingboro, NJ (1958-1968), was a Vietnam Advisor to the National Police (1968-1973), served as NJ Director of Public Safety (1975-1977), was Chief of Security at the New Horseshoe Club in Reno, NV (1977-1979), was the Newberrytown Police Chief (1979), West York Boro Police Chief (1979-1997), served with the York County Sheriff’s Department (1985-1997), was a Pennsylvania State Constable (1992-2011), and was with the Briarwood Golf Course (1996-2011). Marshall was a member of the West York VFW Post 8951, American Legion Post 56, PA State Constable Association, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 73 York County, was a former member of NJ State Trooper Association, and a former member of York County Police Chief’s Association. In addition to his wife, Pamela, Mr. Roser is survived by two sons, S. Marshall Roser III and Matthew Birkelien and his wife Jennifer of Joppa, MD; four daughters, Rose Plantas of Sykesville, MD, Dorothy Marrazzo and her husband John of Delran, NJ, Renee Schnieder and her husband Thomas of Delran, NJ, and Kristina Sieber of Edgemere, MD, and was a grandfather to a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by a sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pathfinders for Autism, 303 International Circle, Suite 110, Hunt Valley, MD 21030.
