York—Ruth May (Eyer) Craley, 88, died Saturday, January 05, 2008, surrounded by her children at County Meadows at Leader Heights. She was the wife of the late Nolan Cletus Craley. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2666 Furnace Rd, Felton, with her pastor, the Rev. Steven E. Thomas officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be held in St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Craley was born June 13, 1919 in Columbia, a daughter of the late Irvin Kraybill and Eliza (May) Eyer. Being born to deaf parents her life was dedicated to serving the deaf community throughout York County. She was a licensed interpreter for the deaf and the coordinator of the Deaf Center Services (Lutheran Social Services). Because of her unique insight and compassion, she accompanied many deaf families to professional appointments and services. For 25 years, she interpreted services at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She was a caring homemaker and loving mother to children and husband and later cherished her years with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A member of the Group 12 Farm Women Organization, she was also a member of PA and York County Association of the Deaf, Keystone Central Deaf Senior Citizens Association, Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf and YWCA. A supporter of the Brogue Lions Club, she volunteered at York Hospital and was one of the founding members of the Chanceford Elementary School PTA. Mrs. Craley is survived by three children, Jetty and husband J. Richard Zarfos of Sarasota, Fla, Richard N. and wife Linda Ann (Leicht) Craley of Felton and Randy R. and wife Linda (Smeltzer) of Felton, eight grandchildren, Apryl Z. Anderson of Aix-en-Provence, France, Phillip N. Zarfos of Sarasota, Fla, James R. Craley of Fawn Grove, Timothy P. Craley of Red Lion, Michael H. Craley of Boothyn, Rev Joshua D. Craley of Newville and Dr. Jenna L. Dubbs, of Clark Summit, five great-grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Anderson, David and Paul Craley and Logan Craley and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery Association, C/O Phil and Joy Conrad, 1540 Bahns Mill Rd, Windsor, Pa 17366.
