SPRINGVALE - Ruth May (Detwiler) Smith, 92, of Windsor Township, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard J. Smith who passed away in 1991. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at St. Paul (Springvale) United Methodist Church, 265 Circle Drive in Red Lion. Her pastor, The Reverend Thomas R. Osenbach will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion and Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Bethlehem Stonepile U. M. Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in York on January 13, 1920, the daughter of the late Amos and Esther Mae (Stein) Detwiler. She had worked in various cigar factories, shoe factories, a sewing factory, and Auto Kraft Box Corporation in Red Lion. Mrs. Smith was a 50 year member of St. Paul (Springvale) United Methodist Church in Red Lion, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, choir member, and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was also a terrific baker and cook. Mrs. Smith leaves two sons, Gregory A. Smith of Felton, Richard Duane Smith of Valdosta, GA; two daughters, Yvonne Snyder of Yorkanna and Leah Lutz and her husband William of Springvale; 13 grandchildren; Blaine Snyder and his companion Annie, Debra Lau, Donna Kauffman, Daniel Snyder and his wife Brenda, Mary Wherley and her husband Lowell, Kimberly Hanniford and her husband Rodney, Michael Smith and his wife Carmen of Italy, Sherry Lizotte and her husband Wesley, Brian Smith and his wife Robin, Bradley Smith and his wife Stephanie, Matthew Lutz and his wife Jill, Michael Lutz and his wife Diane, and Eric Lutz of Arizona; 24 great grandchildren; and seven great, great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Joseph Detwiler; two sisters, Mary Strine and Doris Burke and her husband Weldon. A son-in-law, Harold Snyder and two sisters, Esther Zarfos and Miriam Rusch had preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul (Springvale) United Methodist Church, 265 Circle Drive, Red Lion, PA 17356. Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
