Ruth M. (Kohr) Metzger

POTTSVILLE - Ruth M. Metzger, 90, of Pottsville, died Thursday at the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale. Born in Pottsville on January 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Phoebe Wendling Kohr. She was a 1938 graduate of Pottsville High School. Until retiring in 1985 she was employed by the Pennsylvania National Bank. Prior to the bank, Ruth was employed for many years as a bookkeeper at Bowman's Department Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pottsville. She was a Past President of the Auxiliary of the VFW Post 129; she was a secretary for the District 12 VFW. Ruth was a member of the Friendly Circle, the United Methodist Women, the YWCA, the Reading Court 61, the Order of Amaranth, and the VFW Auxiliary Post 3432. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by: her first husband, Frank R. Schreffler in 1960; her second husband, Franklin J. Metzger, in 1973; and two step-sons, Franklin and his wife Jean Metzger and James and his wife Gladys Metzger. She is survived by two grandchildren, James R. and his wife Mary Metzger, Barnesville and Sondra Metzger, Edmond, OK; a great granddaughter Beth Ann Metzger, Barnesville; and her god child, Beth Cygan, Leesport. Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 10 AM from the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville. The Reverend Storm Hutchinson will officiate. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 9 AM until time of service. Interment will be in the Charles Baber Cemetery.
